Non-NHS Services
Last Updated: Wednesday, 27 May 2026Our GP surgery is committed to providing high-quality care within the scope of NHS services. However, some requests fall outside our NHS contract and may either incur a fee or not be undertaken by the practice.
Services We Do Not Provide
We do not undertake private work that requires specialist assessments or carries significant medico‑legal risk (including vicarious liability). These include, but are not limited to:
- Clearance for high-risk sports (e.g. mountaineering, skydiving, paragliding)
- Certification for participation in sporting events (e.g. marathons, triathlons)
- Diving medicals or fitness-to-dive certification for extreme sports or adventure travel
These activities typically require specialist expertise beyond the scope of General Practice. We recommend that patients seek assessments from appropriately qualified specialists or recognised organisations for such requests.
Chargeable Non‑NHS Services
Some services are not covered under the NHS and therefore attract a fee. Examples include:
- Medical examinations for pre-employment and driving requirements (HGV, PSV, etc.)
- Insurance claim forms
- Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
- Private sick notes
- Vaccination certificates
- Travel pass applications
- Private letters
Fees are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) recommended fee guidance. Our reception team can advise you on charges and appointment
availability.
Turnaround Time
As this work is completed outside of NHS duties:
- Requests may take up to 6 weeks to process
- This may vary depending on GP availability and workload
Collection and Payment
- You will be notified by telephone or SMS when your document is ready
- Payment is required on collection
